Hi guys, I'm looking for a certain Umineko-inspired forum that I've discovered quite some time ago.
I think it was called something "Gameboard-" or "Gamemaster-" related, but my memory seems to be failing me.
Basically, the members made riddles on rokkenjima and other members tried to solve them.

Quite fun, I must say.

Please, if someone has any information, let me know.

Sounds pretty much like this site, Excluding the fact you are looking for a 'forum' and this is an image board.

It's quite possible that may be right. May I ask for a long? Google isn't helping right now :'D

But that URL no longer works, the site is literally dead.

However, some games and posts from that place were archived through a certain "fan episode" that was made shortly before it died, if you are interested in seeing what happened.

You can find it here: http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=109298

Ya, I checked the Wayback Archive, it doesn't seem like any archive of Golden Gameboard exists.

Unless perhaps this person is from a VERY LONG time ago from back when IB4f was used. In which case, archives of that don't really exist either...

So it's closed? I was already afraid of that...
Well, thank you nevertheless. At least now I have some kind of closure to this whole case.

It said to post here if I have a problem, so here it is. Addressing Kinjo

I just downloaded your work. I copy pasted your folder to my Japanese directory which was called "Umineko8" Inside that folder, I already had the Japanese files and the witch-hunt english patch folder. I copied your folder into the Umineko8
Then I tried opening your folder from there and ran your ONScripter
It worked up to the point where I chose Episode 1. It opened, and the background image of the ??? part's of Umineko showed up, then Erika came into view and then it just crashed.
Everytime I try it, it crashes there.
Please help
Thank youu.

So how do we join if we wanna go along with the gameboards and stuff? Sorry to burst in, just been watching for a while.
>> No. 10768 edit
If any game starts and it isn't private you can probably hop in. Sadly there isn't any game running right now.
I just sent a message to Kinjo, he should appear later.
>> No. 10769 edit
Make sure there is not a folder inside of the folder. Otherwise I have no idea as that is an unusual problem. it seems anon has told Kinjo, so expect a response later on.

There are no restrictions for joining any games unless otherwise stated.
For example Rudolf's game which just ended was open for anyone after the RP section.
anon-kun's is currently suspended and is only open to the public afterwards the main game is complete.

Otherwise there are no games atm, and you will have to wait for one.
>> No. 10770 edit
Damn anon, you were only a hair faster than me.
Basically what he says, except there is technically an active gameboard ( Lion's one ), though it's mainly become a duel between Mion and Lion as of now

Hello, Kedgeworth! I also received your e-mail; sorry about the wait~

The problem seems to occur the moment text is displayed on screen. First I have to ask; what is your operating system? If you're using a Mac then there are known problems and there is a way to go about fixing it. Otherwise I'm not really sure what might cause the problem other than an error in the script, but other people have played it just fine, so I don't think it's that simple either.

I'd like to see more boards rolling, but I'm generally not the sort to participate so I suppose I can't make demands. I doubt anyone minds if more start.

p.s. I wrote 3 Redaction scenes in as many days send help. I can't even find time for Fire Emblem. :(

Is it a clean install? Did you put the folder in the root ep8 directory? Are you running the proper executable? Is your computer set to a weird region? It should work just fine plopped into the proper directory.

Reminds me of a game I jokingly thought of after reading Kinjo's 3rd episode. Basically, the floor is lava, for the whole island.

Anyway, on the topic of /gameboard/ I keep thinking all these RP games have set the bar too high for new members, thus people don't feel like making a simple classic style game anymore. That was one of the reasons I brought back one of GE's actually, to show the games don't have to be amazing and last 100 days all the time, just logical and sound.

Another reason I imagine is that most people want to solve a mystery rather than make one. It is most of the older members who are making them now. For example, it has been more than a half year since someone other than an old member(ib4f) made a game. Before Kinjo's Redemption game it had almost been a whole year since I was a detective.

In any case, I know some old members including myself are working on games, but who knows when those will be ready.

Goat san! This anon is obviously using sarcasm!!
Kinjo's fangame is the best!
It's a game that everyone should read at least once.

Huh? (Even if this is a battle of wits) Lion game is open for everyone who doesn't remember the answer. If you want to participate, you are more than welcome!

But, let me warn you, Lion mysteries are very hard. Still, it's a lot of fun.

Finally, if you ever get accused of being piece, don't worry about it. It's not worth it.

Yeah, I think the issue is that everyone wants to see new gameboards but not everyone has the aptitude, or the time, or both, to actually design them. I've personally got a ton of ideas for a gameboard in my head, but it would only really work in VN format and the amount of time and effort it would take to outline everything, to learn to use ONscripter competently and to actually get the whole thing out is just so overwhelming that I've never been able to begin with it. I should try and get some work done on that when I have a break.

Well, that post was almost a year ago, so the guy anon-kun said that to probably isn't still around. (Whoa, have I really been here a year already? I totally remember when this topic first got started.)

Hahaha, you really do work amazingly fast Renall. I wish I had half your work ethic. I'm really enjoying Redaction, so keep up the good work!
>> No. 10781 edit
This has become /gameboard/ general...

Actually, I'm going to question that.
Does it really have to be in VN format? I thought the same for my upcoming game however I decided that simply making a thread dedicated for the story, allowing me to post as many times as I want with different images, etc would work just fine. Then the thread could be locked afterwards and another thread made for theories.

Well, that is what I plan to do. I imagine this may work for yours too.

Its funny. Kinjo and I went to a panel about making Visual Novels where they discussed how you can use certain techniques to make it feel like its actually visual/moving, like giving the feel of almost watching a tv show.

The funny part comes in here where I tell you that you can mimic the VN format by using multiple posts with pictures of different character and backgrounds as well as using music links and some classy writing style

Depending on length and content, I might be down for scripting things myself. Depends what you want to do though, as ONscripter scripts are much easier to actually distribute given that you don't run into the thornier issues I'm having. If it's shorter and something you'd rather see as like a video, I could do that no sweat.

And I am not a machine! I am just a manic-depressive with a very long cycle at the nadir of a phase of activity.

Do not feel forced to make such a big game, as Ozaki says, thinking like that is probably what has maked people stop making games at all.
I was going to say "yeah exactly as anon does!" until I got into "classy writing".

Well naturally there are pros and cons. As I have also said, some tricks need alibis and a full grasp of the situation like Repercussion, where others only would need a description of the room in order to solve. Both can be fun in their own way.

For example, the first game I ever played was GE's first game back on ib4f, in which Kinzo ran around a desolate Rokkenjima while breaking down closed rooms and finding people dead inside. The rooms were described; then you simply had to solve them.
For this game the questions were just anti-fantasy(deny the witch until you find the truth the GM wrote), however they were still entertaining due to the description of the room in order to satisfy Knox.
These games only required making solvable closed rooms rather than a whole complex plot and were accepted rather well.

If you browse through /gamenboard/ you will see with Kinjo's "Devil's Roulette" I was given the push to make some mysteries for the first time.
After the first twilight I noticed everything was rather vague. So I took it further and added few paragraphs of description rather than simply what the program gave me. Later I noticed what worked and continued onto the next closed room working on my ideas. I went from the skeleton which the program gives you, to the middle ground with my own paragraphs and then descriptive closed rooms with interactivity.

If I had to say what not to do, is overuse wordplay. Even more so now that /seacats/ is more pro-mystery. Sure a little bit of trickery with red is fine as it is the witch's purpose, but I always make the answers possible for myself irl in order to be fair. So if there is wordplay it should at least be hinted in a logical manner.

tl;dr Newbies go try Devil's Roulette: http://www.mediafire.com/?o1cblyfoeo5qowo
Knox's 8th is your friend.

Mm, maybe I am a little too overambitious. That tends to be a problem with me in general though; everything I ever start working on inevitably ends up suffering from an extreme case of scope creep.

But it's not really that I feel pressured into making something on a bigger scale; it's more that that's just the kind of thing I want to write, I suppose. To be honest learning to use ONscripter doesn't really scare me that much compared to actually working out the plot and finding the time to WRITE the thing. ONscripter doesn't seem like it should be that much trouble to learn from the messing around I have done with it; again, I guess it's more a matter of finding the time than anything.

I've never really had any interest in making a mystery by itself without something else going on around it, and considering that I've always found the psychological aspects of Umineko more interesting than the closed room puzzles I can't imagine that a "mini gameboard" type of mystery is the sort of thing I'd enjoy writing. So inevitably I end up wanting to write something longer since I'm more interested in writing a story than a mystery. Which is entirely my own problem, really.
>> No. 10793 edit
Eh, ain't nothing wrong with that. My entire work is a psychological mystery. There's like... no actual closed rooms, because I suck at that kind of thing and tend to find it ridiculous if you actually make an effort to make it hard to solve (since the most obvious answers can't be used, you often have to get esoteric).

Obviously I can't run something like that as a gameboard as it's fundamentally non-interactive. I did have an idea for one of sorts though.
>> No. 10795 edit
Overambition is the main reason I never managed to finish my previous project, motivation is a bitch.

As for the mini-gameboards, the ones I did on the stream were pretty fun to come up with, the thing is that too much of it can get repetitive.

I am wondering, what would you consider a "big wordplay" ? If you do remember my second mini gameboard I did last week, do you it'd apply ? Wondering 'cause i have lots of similarly tricky mysteries in mind.

Psychological mystery heh ? That's interesting, I'm wondering how it would play out.

Don't forget that closed rooms are just one type of mysteries, even among murder mysteries, and that there are other possibilities.
In the end, I think as long as it is a mystery, which means something that has to and can be solved, it does belong here.

File 131930745749.jpg - (73.87KB , 708x720 , 3923432.jpg )
I didn't listen to your second one, was too busy reading etc.

The type of wordplay I disagree with... I guess an example would be if in order to avoid a red, if you said "everyone", which is used as a word to described a number of people was actually someone's name, that would be a bit unfair. If you capitalized it each time, or actually had a hint in the story that was someone's name only then it would be on the border line of fair imo.
>> No. 10797 edit
Sorry, that was me, I forget to use the name a lot. I just don't have a lot of puzzles in Redaction. There's maybe three (an X, Y, and Z if you will), none of them particularly hard as long as you've figured the character motivations out, and none of them "impossible" tricks or wordplay issues (I've largely been trolling with my red use so far) or closed rooms. Well, okay, there's sort of one? Barely.

There's thematic reasons for it, but in general it also just doesn't exactly fit how I wanted to do things, and I don't see myself as competent enough to craft them without being intrusive to the story.

Of course I say that and one of the things I thought was totally obvious hasn't been caught by anyone that I know of who is reading it. I suppose they didn't think to look for it, so they wouldn't know that they found it. It led to some very... interesting ideas at least.

My biggest fear is that people will be left scratching their heads, and my logic will be logical only to me. I hope to back things heavily up in the answer parts of the post-story, with references and actual shots of the dialogue, but even so.
>> No. 10801 edit
I see, so unfair and unforeshadowed wordplays uh ?

Hey, since you haven't seen the answer to that second gameboard, how about you try to solve it ?

I see, sorry, I haven't really followed Redaction, can't say it appealed to me at first glance, but I'll try to at least look it into it more profoundly one of those days, plus if it's original, why not.
>> No. 10802 edit
Eh, it's cool. You may want to wait for the eventual VN release since it's rather long right now. At least, assuming I get all the issues handled that will allow me to do a VN release.

Alright then.

I forgot to thank you guys for your suggestions, I just got an email from Kinjo and replied there and forgot to check back here if any of you had tried to help. So if anyone else faces this problem, here's my solution:
Download the latest version of ONScripter and replace it with the one you downloaded in Kinjo's VN.
