Everything has been put together here and organized for maximum ease of use:


Step 0: Download the above, unrar it.
Step 1: Run the program in the Step 1 folder, this will download the character builder.
Step 2: Run the program in the Step 2 folder, this will update your Cbuilder. Make sure to specify the directory to which you installed the program in Step 1. Be absolutely sure of this, because it may try to install in a different directory (Program Files as opposed to Program Files x86 or vice versa), which will not work.
Step 3: Move the files in the Step 3 folder into the CBuilder directory.
Step 4: Run the "CharacterBuilderLoader.exe" file. It will take some time to download all the custom content the first (and perhaps second) time you load it.
Step 5: That should be it. Remember, always open it using the CharacterBuilderLoader.exe and not the default Cbuilder file.

You can also aid another here using Dungeoneering, I'll allow that. There's no need for anyone to sit around doing nothing if you don't want to, you have a reasonable chance of success even without training on aid another.

Crazy idea : somebody with good perception get on the tiger with Torinn and Rutger walks along wall over the water pool. Make perception check without fear of ambush. It's even immune to tremorsense since it's not on the same axis.

It wasn't that, it's just that you were going to follow Torinn, but the hydra moved as soon as Torinn finished his move so you didn't have time to follow. On the bright side you do have the first round in initiative so it should work out okay.

So, for future reference, when using my crane's wings move technique, total squares moved is my check result divided by 5 (rounded down)? So if I roll 15 (1+14), i'd move 3 squares, etc? Also, if you did, my Open the Gate of Battle attack loses 2d10 damage I think. Anyway, once one of the party members relates the info to us about the Hydra, here's my possible plan for my turn. Move just outside of the threatening reach of the hydra, minor action item power (encounter) to shift 2 squares (and gain +1 ac and reflexes until end of next turn), then use Open the Gate of Battle (and hopefully hit.) Another final option would be Blurred STrike Ki focus' daily item power as well to gain +2 to all defenses til end of next turn but that seems kinda redundant.

Hydra super powerful, the most simple plan to deal with hydra-kun it's probably weak + daze and spam attacks until it dies, since we dont have fire/acid attacks.

Since it's a multi-attacker, I believe reducing its damage will significantly weaken its ability to threaten us. Thus, I'm strongly considering spending my item daily power and my daily power to weaken it and tack on a -5 to attack rolls for good measure, making it significantly less scary for a round. Seizing an early advantage will probably turn the tide of the fight in our favor.

I've seen what damage resistance does to someone that relies on making several attacks per turn or per round, and it's not pretty.

What say you guys?

I meant under the circumstances Astaroth was describing. Acid/fire does stop the regeneration, but destroying 2 heads in one round will just cause it to grow 4 new heads on its turn.

DR is a good idea, but those effects would probably be much more useful when the hydra can make more attacks at once. Personally, I think we should use limited resources during its more dangerous phase, so that it both ends as quickly as possible and becomes a lot less scary. Maybe when it's bloodied?

Also, I think weaken and -5 penalty should be done on separate rounds. Using both at once seems like overkill, and it just makes the round after they wear off much harder to heal through, since it'll save its action point for then.

I'm planning to use up either Lamb to the Slaughter or Vengeful Elementals here; it's probably Lamb to the Slaughter, unless it misses.

This is the one thing Righteous Radiance can do that Divine Challenge can't (besides controlling mobility and being on at all times) : punish every out of turn attack made by the same enemy. The bane of solos everywhere.

Didn't Sureiya's info block say that the penalties only count for the first attack it makes, and then the other heads don't get the penalties?

Also this might be interesting: my level 5 daily does 2d10 + 6 fire damage. It's against Fort, though, but if I can land a hit that means I halt the regeneration somewhat.

I think just one head for just one round for ever 12 fire damage. It does halve damage on a miss so we should be able to do 12 fire damage with some luck, but I think it's better to just bumrush it hard when we can; either that, or lose a lotta surges.

Good question.

On the one hand, damage reduction and fire damage would probably be very helpful here.

One thing I didn't mention in the knowledge check I probably should have:
The hydra's individual attack go up in damage potential as its number of heads decreases. With only 3 heads, hydra fury adds +5 damage to attack. With only 2 heads, hydra fury instead adds +2 attack and +10 damage to each attack. With only 1 head, the hydra gets the above bonus and can attack up to three creatures within range with the attack.

Alright, I put anon's character in the character builder, and some things aren't adding up. With anon's current stat set, he still has 2 points left for a stat (I put it into dex, so he has 18 dex) and with that he gains one more AC, so 21 AC, same NADs as before.

Also, as for scale as anon wanted, it's not really that feasible unless you sacrifice two feats (one to get chainmail to have the prerequisite for scale, then one for scale). One suggestion for next level to boost his defenses somehow, is drop weapon focus for some other feat. Also, I don't know how you wield your weapons, but Harmony Blade should be mainhand (I dunno if it's a bastard sword harmony blade) and farbond should be offhand, the reason why is, see the crit effect for harmony blade, and see the property of harmony blade. It'll effectively give you +2 to all defenses(because the enemy takes a -2 to attack if trying to target you) when you hit with both weapons in the same turn (and with Twin Strike and your other powers, it's almost guaranteed). I forget what else I noticed

Okay so if its attack against creatures what end their turn nearby is an OA, that means Torinn should just attack and forget Righteous Radiance.

Delay your turn to find out, maybe? I plan to Dimensional Vortex it on its own turn so it can attack itself, but if I don't move it at all I can make it just attack itself with one attack (not the entire hydra fury I assume) so then I can also do it on its own turn or just stick to shielding fire... but 23 damage is one short of stopping the regen twice. Unless it has a Fire vulnerability.

I'm fine with making the moment more poignant and all, but you need to think about what's appropriate to the situation. To be honest the alternating between normal cavern floors and worked stone is actually intended to be fitting for the idea of the dungeon I had in mind.

I don't wanna be inflexible here, but maybe you should think of something to do other than trying to dig through solid stone with no tools.

Sorry, I did forget to mention those. They are, in fact, empty torch-holders like you said. If you inspected them you'd find that they did in fact once hold torches, but they've long since burned down to nothing.

So I was considering retraining Grasping Shadows to Dread Presence. Damage die grows from 1d8 to 1d10, range suffers from 10 to Close, area of effect grows from burst 1 to blast 5, and it still Slows on hit. The zone does Wis mod (1) damage to creatures that end their turn there. Neither is party-friendly.

Other candidate is Twilight Falls: not party friendly, damage die is 1d6, burst 1 within 10, but it dazes creature in origin square on hit and creates a zone that gives us concealment against creatures within the zone.

Twilight Falls is obv useful for its Daze power, whereas the other two give Slow. Grasping Shadows is range 11 for single-target damage, Presence is 5. Presence can grab a LOT of enemies and its area is party friendly iirc but yeah, idk.

As for DnD 5E, I'm not terribly worried. If I like it enough we may make the switch if it comes out around the time our paragon and/or epic campaign comes around--but only if there's enough material available to make such a transition and the players agree. Otherwise, we'll be sticking with 4E even if there's a 5E out.

No I am not mad, I am ecstatic that I had a really amazing idea with the real possibility of being used, and doing what char-op has been clamoring for but not actually done anything about - fixing Righteous Radiance. If it were a feat, it wouldn't even be a feat tax. It'd be the last payment you need to make before you get to claim ownership of and operate a giant death ray.

I blame not sleeping on this excitement over something that's actually fairly trivial in the grand scheme of things. I somehow get my best/most insane ideas when I don't sleep, and that's not a good sign. White Lotus Dueling Expertise just went from pretty meh to amazing for arcane classes that want implements and weapons at the same time.

And yes, Devout Protector update is nothing short of completely and utterly great for sword and board paladins. No range restriction at all on that means anybody who didn't already have a shield bonus now gets one for free.

They finally fixed zone ping-ponging, yay.

Also, updated versatile expertise finally. Huzzah.

Duelling Expertise is more interesting for Sorcerors than any other Arcane class, really: some Sorcerors want to use daggers, so getting that is neat, and having the option to wield an implement they are not normally proficient with is nice for elemental builds.

Otherwise, meh, it doesn't add a lot to the other Arcane classes.

So Astaroth are you getting Devout Protector expertise.

I like the one that gives proficiency with staves, orbs, etc., though. Warlocks could find a use for it too as opening up staves to them gives them the Staff of Ruin implement which can be pretty important to non-Darkspiral warlocks who aren't interested in any particular brand of cheese.

Incidentally, was thinking of retraining feat list upon hitting level 7 to this:

1. Master of Stories
2. Skill Power (Legend Lore)
4. Improved Initiative

* Mounted Combat
6. Improved Celestial Steed

If I can't make myself a better defender, I'll have to go with being a better leader and make some substantial contribution to knowledge checks. And my history modifier would be the equivalent of a +1 bonus, so I'm not losing out on anything. Also don't see any other feats I really need besides that.

Slaying or disabling the taskmaster outright should cripple the morale of the imps and break the hold over their workers. Stunning Palm, Your Glorious Sacrifice, Hunger of Hadaar, whatever works. Just take him out of the fight quickly.

For the Minor, I'll Mark the Troglodyte not near Folka.

The others should avoid nearing the Drow that used Cloud of Darkness, and ideally focus fire on the Troglodytes, I think. Troglodytes risk us suffering the attack penalties and all; attack with non-lethal to keep Torinn/Astaroth happy. I'm not entirely sure we can afford just focusing fire on the Taskmaster, since we don't know its HP values and Bern's gone.

The cloud of darkness would be an incredibly useless ability if it could be foiled by a light source.

Now, I don't really see this as too debilitating to you, really. You're a monk, and total concealment only matters as far as melee and ranged attack powers go. Burst and blast powers aren't affected at all (though they take the troglodtye stench penalty if you're there).

You have an at-will close burst and your flurry of blows can slide stuff around. You can easily set them up for something nasty.

For instance, hit somebody, slide them into position, then drunken monkey the troglodyte with an action point and get second flurry of blows. A recipe for disaster of the delicious sort.

Also, you can use surprise strike since you have CA and daze somebody. Really, you can just completely wreck the enemies near you, then saunter on out like a boss.

Or pummel the troglodyte with attacks vs. will and/or reflex and take it out of the fight. Mark = soldier I think so high fort and AC.

You've got more options than you think.

Anyway, Bern, can I request a Sly Fox Spirit attack on the Taskmaster? Putting pressure on him should, from an in-game perspective, force him to either beg for help, beg for mercy, or break his hold over them. Unless the imps are elites (I thought we were supposed to get this info with a check, where is it), then the biggest threat is gone and the battle's pretty much just clean-up after that. Better to do this before he gets a chance to use an action point, any bloodied abilities kick in, and before he snaps out of his daze.

Sariel's Booming blade would make for a nice catch-22 with the imps, who will be forced to engage her in melee or suffer an OA. If they trigger it once, odds are they'll never want to do so again.

George, if you can't escape after making another check, just curse and attack the taskmaster anyway, even if it is from prone. It's better than doing nothing, at least.

If I attack Taskmaster, I've potentially killed something that's just taken its turn and has no guarantee of ending the encounter. If I attack the Drow, I permit Bernkastel egress to the leaf wall's safety, and Folka can move around more. The attack itself seems ally-unfriendly, but the zone it creates is not so I don't think it's really a huge deal.

The main considering is that it seems questionable to me if you count as being "on the ground" while mounted~ Of course I'd rule that you are, but it is problematic because the close burst would use your own space as the origin rather than the mount's.

Yes, but shutting down an encounter doesn't necessarily have to be about using dailies though, more like focus firing or picking targets to hassle so they can't do their job. And Bern is going to be gone today. I disagree with Hide anyway, if I recall, most of the melee was going to charge the frog demon so it doesn't actually change anything. Torinn's tiger can jump-attack so he's good.

Naturally the plan was originally based on the assumption that Sankis was a solo, but I think Bern still wants to go ahead with the plan.
