Determining that healing Elayne is not feasible at the moment, the adventurers ready themselves--and just as the shaman retrieves the battle standard and returns to mount Rutger, the impenetrable gaol suddenly bursts open, revealing the monster within!

The lich looks largely the same as before, but the nature of the earthen ward has changed--the shards are now much smaller, yet spin more rapidly, and there appear to be very few large pieces of rock left. However, the way they move suggests the lich now has greater control over them, and the lich radiates an aura of immense power. Two pillars of stone suddenly rise up to the south, shattering pieces of the platform as they embed themselves within.

"At last, a challenge!" Gallard exclaims in an excited, raspy-sounding voice.

The orc lich adopts a fighting stance. Below you, you hear an odd sort of muffled screaming and yelling... looking over the edge, you can see what appears to be white, ethereal orc faces swirling around the ledge upon which you stand, trailing black smoke, their mouths constantly opening and yelling something indecipherable.

"Let all the fallen dragonsworn souls witness this...!" Gallard cries, raising his staff high into the air.

Notes
Gallard's earthen ward persists, but its nature has changed. A new arcana check will help identify its effects.
For knowledge about the lich's other attacks, a religion check is necessary.
The leyline is now volatile. To learn its new attacks, you may take an arcana check.
If you end your turn in the lich's shifting earth aura (marked by brown aura on the map), the lich can slide you 2 squares to another square in the aura.
The zone created by weight of the land (orange burst) is difficult terrain. It lasts for one round, after which it deals damage to anything still in the zone and knocks them prone (no attack roll).
Knowledge of the weird black effect is religion.

Sureiya (Knowledge results) Lich: Gallard has assumed the full power of the leyline and is now much stronger than before (level 11 solo controller). Being undead, using attacks based on poison or disease is a waste of effort (he's immune), and necrotic energy will also prove ineffective (resist 10 necrotic). He has no discernible weakness. Though his touch is infused with a paralyzing cold, he retains few of the powers of the classic lich, as his primary forms of attack come from his earth-based staff. When attacking from range, he can utilize bolts of necrotic energy as before, and his expanding aura of shifting earth presents a danger as well. As before, he can channel the leyline to utilize its many powers, of which you are quite aware. Gallard is also immune to the leyline's attacks due to his mastery of it.
Leyline: The leyline (a level 11 hazard) has become unstable and volatile, meaning that the very nature of its attacks has changed drastically. Notably, Gallard can channel it to create rock bombs. Rock bombs are large conjurations that are slightly easier to strike than Gallard himself (they use Gallard's defenses - 2). You can pass through the rock bombs, but you can't move diagonally through the squares they occupy, which are difficult terrain. They rock bombs can be destroyed by a strong enough attack (any melee or ranged attack that targets a rock bomb and hits, dealing 20 or more damage destroys the rock bomb, which does not cause it to burst, any other effects are ignored by the rock bombs). When he uses the ability, he can conjure them three at a time, in a specific pattern. One round later, he conjures an additional three, and the first three begin to burst. The round after that, the first three he conjures burst, and the second three threaten to burst, and he conjures an additional three, at which point he cannot conjure anymore or use the power again until all of the bombs have burst. When the bombs burst, they attack in a large area (close burst 3 vs. reflex), dealing some damage, though you can avoid all the damage if you manage to dodge.
Weight of the land functions mostly as before, except it no longer slows. the leyline targets one person for each count of earthen rage, which increases each time he uses weight of the land. There is no longer an attack involved, instead the ground beneath the feet of each target simply becomes unstable and quickly bursts, throwing anyone caught within to the ground (weight of the land creates a burst 1 zone of difficult terrain under each target, and 1 round later deals damage and knocks prone any creature within the zone via an attack vs. reflex, half damage on a miss).
Gallard can now also channel the leyline to create stone shackles, an attack that targets one or two creatures. Those that don't manage to step out of them quickly enough (vs. reflex) will feel the shackles begin to drag them down before binding them completely (you will be slowed until the end of your next turn, and when the slow ends you become restrained until escape). The shackles increase in strength if they are near another set (a creature restrained by the stone shackles has the escape DC increase from moderate to hard if they are within 5 squares of another creature restrained by stone shackles).
Black Effect: The storm of souls is a collection of spirits of Dragonsworn orcs that have lingered in the Shadowfell for whatever reason, demanding revenge on the living. Gallard has managed to summon them forth through an unseen power, though they are greatly weakened here and do little more than cloud the vision of those caught within the storm (the souls only affect those who fall off the platform).

Bernkastel: Bernkastel knows as much as Sureiya about the lich. A swirling barrier of elemental earth, the Earthen Ward protects the lich partially from distant attacks, forced movement, and falling prone. It does not bind the lich in place, though his movement is somewhat diminished. Though the lich is only a medium creature, the barrier extends his attacks as he has full control over it, and prevents other creatures from drawing close. On the other hand, destroying the barrier will also destroy the lich within.

Knowledge (Myn): Myn knows as much about the earthen ward as Bernkastel and as much about the leyline as Sureiya. Myn can also guess at the powers of the lich--its most basic attack, a paralyzing touch, is a soft touch of its hand on the target that imparts damaging necrotic energy (paralyzing touch is a melee 1 basic attack vs. Fortitude that, on a hit, deals necrotic damage and immobilizes the target (save ends). The damage is somewhat weak. It also retains its signature nether bolt (a ranged 20 basic attack vs Fortitude that deals necrotic damage and [gray]ongoing necrotic damage[/gray)). Its staff contains a potent attack which is discharged when it strikes at a foe, upheaving the earth in an overwhelming avalanche (mountain buster is a dice-based recharge power with a range of melee 1 on the primary attack, vs AC. If the lich is marked or under the effect of defender aura, it must target the creature affecting it with the primary attack. The primary attack deals damage only, and the lich makes a secondary attack, which is a blast 5 with the center row of the blast on the primary target. Each nonsummon creature in the blast, including the primary target, is targeted by a vs Reflex secondary attack, which deals more damage and pushes each target other then the primary target 6 squares, on a miss, there is half damage and each target other then the primary target is pushed 3 squares).
The lich has a potent control over the ground beneath its very feet, causing it to shift erratically and move around creatures that stand on it (shifting earth is an aura 1, whenever a creature ends its turn in the aura, the lich can slide it 2 squares to another square in the aura). As the aura grows in power, it will eventually create a massive shockwave that can potentially send any caught within over the edge (when the lich uses upheaval, a minor action, the aura expands to aura 3. At the start of the lich's following turn, it expands to aura 5. On the lich's next turn, if the aura is 5, the lich can use a standard action to make a burst 5 attack vs. Fortitude that, on a hit, deals heavy damage to the target, pushes it 5 squares and knocks it prone, on a miss, half damage and pushes 3 squares, using the attack returns the aura to aura 1, the power recharges when the lich begins its turn with the aura at 1). The lich's soul phylactery is prolific, if the lich is defeated (reduced to 0 or fewer hit points), its body and possessions crumble to dust, and it regenerates a day later near its phylactery. The lich's mastery of the leyline gives it access and immunity to all of the leyline's potent attacks (on an init of 10 + Gallard's initiative, Gallard can use a free action to use one of the leyline's attacks. As follows, weight of the land recharges when he uses stone shackles, and stone shackles recharges when he uses weight of the land. Rock bombs recharges when there are no bombs remaining).
The lich is a master of controlling the area around it. Leaving the shifting earth aura can be treacherous (as a free action, when a creature leaves the shifting earth aura, the lich can use tremor to make an attack vs. Reflex, on a hit, the triggering enemy falls prone). When the earthen ward is damaged, the lich will unleash its fury upon an unfortunate foe (earthen might triggers as a no action when the lich is first bloodied, recharging mountain buster and immediately using it). The lich is somewhat slow-moving, but treads easily upon the earth (the lich has a speed of 4 and ignores earth-based difficult terrain). All in all, a formidable opponent.

"The ward will protect him from ranged attacks, and keep him stable!" Sid shouts. "And we need to make sure not to fall into that black mess down there, it's awful!"

Sid (Knowledge): http://orokos.com/roll/208775
Sid knows that the ward grants the lich cover against attacks that originate more than 5 squares away. It also allows the lich to reduce forced movement via a push, pull, or slide by up to 4 squares, and make a saving throw to avoid falling prone whenever it'd be knocked prone.
Sid also knows that the swirling cloud exists at ground level, 30 feet down below the platform, blocking line of sight and dealing 10 necrotic damage if you being your turn within.

As the half-orc offers his retort, he closes the gap with the lich and lashes out with his blades--one strike is turned aside by a shard of spinning rock, but the other cleaves through a rock and stabs at the lich itself, who barely avoids the blow, with a piece of his ragged robes being cut.

Snarling, Gallard simply replies, "It has been an age since a challenge worthy of personal attention appeared... I am glad to do combat with you!" Sureiya finds himself sliding along a path directed by the lich, and Gallard follows up by bringing his raised staff down in an arc. There is a brief rumble before three large, runed rocks slam into the ground--one nearly on top of Gallard, and two flanking him at a distance. There is a rumble to suggest that more of the rocks will descend soon... and those who know of the leyline know what these suspicious rocks are--the yellow runes on their surfaces give them away.

Sureiya sets his quarry and moves.
Sureiya uses frenzied skirmish, hitting once for 17 damage and dazing the lich until the end of his next turn. Sureiya ends his turn in the shifting earth aura and Gallard slides him 2 squares.
Gallard's mastery of the leyline conjures three rock bombs.

Ramuh's new storm of thundering noise is clearly affecting the lich, as it stumbles backwards despite the earthen ward's protection, and the repeated blasts of thunder are wearing away at the barrier. As Ramuh calls forth a certain ally of his into existence, Myn simply moves behind the big cat and fires a beam of eldritch energy to sheer off another potion of the lich's ward.

"We're just getting started..." Gallard notes, his aura growing in power and extending his control over elemental earth. He also fires a bolt of necrotic energy in Sureiya's direction, but the half-orc seems to ignore the bolt despite being struck directly in the chest--it simply doesn't affect him.

Ramuh moves and uses howling tempest, hitting Gallard for 21 thunder damage and successfully slides him 1 square. The burst creates a zone of deafening wind. Ramuh summons his sidhe ally.
Myn curses Gallard and moves. His eldritch blast hits for 22 damage.
Gallard begins his turn in the zone and takes 5 thunder damage. He uses upheaval to expand his aura to 3 squares.
Gallard spends an action point! Gallard uses nether bolt but misses Sureiya.

The shaman hesitates for a moment, and Sid reinforces Torinn's resistance with one of his prepared formulas. Taking careful position, Sid pulls something from his pouch and lightly lobs it into the air--it is a small metal sphere that expands to its full size in a half-second, and then turns a red, glowing eye to fixate its gaze upon the lich. "Hit it with everything you've got! The spotter will provide fire support!" Sid calls out.

Bernkastel delays.
Sid uses resistive formula on Torinn. Sid moves.
Sid uses punishing eye, conjuring a psychic eye. Enemies within 3 squares of the eye cannot benefit from concealment. Whenever an ally hits an enemy within 3 squares of the eye, the eye deals 5 psychic damage to the enemy.

"It's all in our superior numbers."

The taller of the shaman's spirit companions finally makes an entrance, leading four fiery soldier spirits, which step through walls of fire as the shaman mutters and taps the earth with her spear four times.

The elemental spirit signals to the archon spirit nearest to Myn before gleefully slashing at Gallard and disappearing in a powerful gust of wind. The ordered spirit immediately infuses Myn for a follow-up attack.

Minor action: Spirit of Athas next to Gallard.
Standard action: Vengeful Elementals. Provoking no OA since Gallard is dazed. Positions are Q-15, O-17, M-14, and J-16, all elevation 1.
- Allies adjacent to them: +1 power bonus to attack rolls, +1d6 bonus to damage rolls on melee attacks
- Action point - Standard action: Spirit of Athas attack vs. Gallard. http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4582845/
- Gallard has -2 to attack and defenses until EoNT.
Minor action: Spend the Vengeful Elemental next to Myn (at J-16 elevation 1) to grant him a BA. +1 power bonus to attack.

The ranger takes the shaman's word as his cue to begin his brutal attack. As he borrows elemental energy, metal scales form over his skin, granting him abnormal strenght. The spirits around further empower him, and they rush him to attack the weakened Lich five times in a row, almost making the time flow slower around of him. After the assault, his rage ends and he returns to his usual self.
Action point! Attacks on the run! Move to M-14 and start murdering (56 and 31 damage)
Standard action: Twin strike (one hit for 10 damage lol)
Minor: Off-hand strike, one hit for 19 damage
Also, punishing eye should deal 20 damage.
Move: Move to O-13.

The shaman finally calls upon her elemental spirit, along with four fiery battle-ready elementals, covering the battlefield with her lesser servants. Both the elemental spirit and one of the archon-like elementals only make a brief appearance, however, one infusing itself into the lich, instilling a weakness within it, and the other infusing itself into the warlock, empowering a potent eldritch beam that pierces the lich's defenses and burns off a shoulder bone. With each hit, the floating sphere Sid summoned strikes the lich with a beam of piercing energy.

Sureiya unleashes a veritable storm of blades on the lich, striking twice with expert precision as he moves into close quarters to gain the support of the nearby archon, then slashing twice again--one strike hits and one misses. The lich is now reeling from the sheer power of the ranger's blows, which have not only thrown him off-balance but destroyed several bits of the earthen ward, and Sureiya's final stab with his off-hand weapon manages to strike the lich directly in the center of its ribcage. It is at that moment that the lich unleashes a devastating counter-attack, striking at Torinn with his staff--but the staff strike misses him and instead strikes the earth, sending a sudden, heavy wave of earth that bowls over the adventurers gathered nearby. Ramuh is knocked over and precariously teeters on the edge of the platform for a moment before rolling onto his stomach, remaining safely above the swirling souls. It would appear that a burst of scales that erupted from his flesh prevented it from hitting too hard. Torinn's last-second radiant shield manages to prevent the shaman from a devastating hit, though Rutger finds itself also perched precariously near the edge. Sureiya is forced back slightly though manages to avoid the worst of it. Sureiya skirts around the lich to look for better positioning, but the shifting earth beneath his feet makes it difficult.

"Impressive... I can see how many fighting as one is quite effective," Gallard notes, clasping his hands together. From the platform, earthen tendrils burst from the ground and grasp at the legs of Rutger and Sureiya, and though they are weak for now, they still interfere with movement well enough, and it appears they are going to solidify into shackles of stone in mere moments. At the same time, another trio of bomb rocks pops into existence, and the ones that were there before begin to vibrate ominously...

Gallard takes 9 radiant damage from Torinn's missed holy smite.
Bernkastel summons her spirit of athas.
Bernkastel uses vengeful elementals, conjuring four elementals that grant allies a +1 power bonus to attack rolls and +1d6 damage on melee attacks.
Bernkastel spends an action point to us the spirit of athas attack, which hits for 9 damage plus 5 psychic damage. The lich takes a -2 penalty to attack rolls and all defenses. The spirit of athas disappears.
Bernkastel dismisses one of the spirits to grant Myn an attack, and his eldritch blast hits for 34 damage plus 5 psychic damage.
Sureiya spends an action point! Sureiya uses attacks on the run, hitting twice for 46 damage and 21 damage plus 10 psychic damage, plus an extra 10 damage from resourceful presence. He moves as part of this action.
Sureiya uses twin strike, hitting once for 10 damage.
Sureiya uses off-hand strike, which hits the lich for 19 damage plus 5 psychic damage, bloodying it. This triggers earthen might, and Gallard uses mountain buster, missing Torinn with the primary attack. Ramuh is hit but turns into a miss with dragon scales for 8 damage, and Bernkastel is crit for 30 damage, and both are pushed 6 squares. Sureiya and Torinn are missed for 8 damage and pushed 3 squares. Bernkastel can remain on the platform by having Rutger move with her, and Ramuh saves against being forced over the edge. Torinn uses righteous shield to redirect Bern's crit to himself, taking 20 damage and gaining a +2 power bonus to attack rolls.
Sureiya moves and is then slid 2 squares for ending his turn in shifting earth.
Gallard's mastery of the leyline has the leyline use stone shackles, hitting Sureiya and Rutger. Both are slowed until the end of their turn, at which point they become restrained until escape. The DC of the escape is 19, unless the creature is within 5 squares of another restrained creature, at which point it becomes 27. Three more rock bombs form and the previous three are about to explode.

Ramuh pulls himself to his feet and channels a bit of power into his zone of howling wind, before unleashing a veritable storm of lightning on the lich. The eye drone joins in, adding some searing psychic blasts to the revenant's barrage of levins.

Myn's own barrage of eldrtich beams misses its mark at first, but with a little adjustment a second beam manages to penetrate the lich's defenses and pierce the skeleton through its spine, and Gallard staggers a bit, drawing his ward together to defend himself. Launching a bolt of shadow towards Sureiya, the orc retaliates by hurling his own blade--neither ranged attack finds its mark, and Gallard only takes a moment to solidify his ward against attacks from the north and west.

"Yes, truly you have great power... I see now why you are feared..." the lich mutters as he steels himself for another storm of blows.

Ramuh stands from prone and sustains his zone.
Ramuh uses lightning strike and hits for 20 lightning damage plus 5 psychic damage.

With the shaman helping out, Torinn takes the vial and uncorks it. Mist rushes out from it, filling Rutger with vigor that allows the mount to cover more ground in its slowed state. Torinn pulls his blade again and directs Rutger to leap at Gallard, teeth bared and claws out. His holy symbol burns brightly, wrapping the lich in chains of light that restrict it from doing anything, anything that would harm anyone other than him.

Mobilizing her spirits, the shaman first uses an iron archon to guide Ramuh's out-of-place blast of cold towards the rock bomb near Gallard. The rock bomb freezes over, and then crumbles into icy shards. Dispelling one of her other summoned archons, the shaman then allows Myn to again shoot his eldritch beam and strike the lich, damaging another large chunk of the earthen ward.

Handing off a horse's breath to Torinn, the shaman is able to aid him in guiding Rutger back from the brink and, despite the earthen tendrils grasping at his feet, getting the big cat close enough to lunge forward at Gallard. Though Rutger's attack is a narrow miss, Torinn's magic symbol guarantees safety for his allies.

Bernkastel moves her archon spirits. Bernkastel uses direct the strike, and Ramuh's dragonfrost hits the rock bomb and destroys it.
Bernkastel expends one of her spirits, and Myn's eldritch blast hits Gallard for 23 damage plus 5 psychic damage. Bernkastel stows her spear and gets ready to hand off a horse's breath to Torinn.
Torinn stows his sword and uses the horse's breath to move Rutger. Torinn double-moves and draws his sword, then uses battle pounce and just barely misses Gallard. Torinn uses symbol of the champion's code. Rutger ends his turn and is restrained (escape DC 19).

Even thought he's little flattered by Gallard's remark, the ranger doesn't hesitates to pay him back with his sword, managing a solid hit as his spinning flying sword was coming back to him. Then he makes haste, somewhat stalled by the sorcerer's last attack, and well-aware that the Lich is subject to Torinn's challenge he isn't a tad worried as he walks next to his enemy, escaping from the bomb's range.

Sureiya leans forward and draws back his returning sword, then looses it quickly, twice, in quick succession. One is deflected away by the swirling ward, but another is a direct hit on the lich's skull that slices off a large chunk of bone between the skeleton's eye sockets. Gallard is reeling, and it doesn't look like he can last much longer, though in desperation he raises his staff, causing three depressions to appear in the earth beneath the feet of the big tiger, Myn, and the ranger.

As he does so, the two rock bombs remaining on the middle row explode, spraying the nearby empty space with stone shrapnel. The three bombs to the north appear to be about to do so as well, and a trio of bombs appear to the south.

Sureiya uses ranged twin strike, missing once and hitting once for 27 damage plus 5 psychic damage. Sureiya runs.
Gallard uses weight of the land, creating three zones of difficult terrain. In one round they will explode.

Notes
Gallard can reduce forced movement via a puhs, pull, or slide by up to 4 suqares and can make a saving throw to avoid falling prone whenever he would be knocked prone.
Squares occupied by rock bombs are difficult terrain and you cannot move diagonally through them. You can otherwise enter their squares normally. A rock bomb can be targeted by any melee or ranged attack, which, if hits and deals 20 or more damage, destroys it. Rock bombs have defenses equal to Gallard's defenses - 2.
Creatures that begin their turns in the zone of defeaning wind take 5 thunder damage.

From close distance, Ramuh attempts to freeze the lich's form and slow his movements to subdue, but unfamiliarity with the ice element (he can't even remember why he knows the spell at all) and the difficulty in hitting the right spots makes the job difficult.

Ramuh and his sidhe ally attempt to move into better positions before the revenant unleashes another blast of cold, but the earthen ward seems to successfully absorb the magic without being damaged.

Myn faces the lich and grimaces, transferring a blast of psionic agony to the lich's shattered mind. This proves to ultimately be too much for Gallard, as the shards of earth surrounding him suddenly stop moving and drop to the ground. The rock bombs crumble, the sunken earth reverts, and the stone shackles vanish from the legs of Rutger and Sureiya.

"And so it ends..." Gallard gasps, and then his skeletal body collapses into a heap. The light has faded from his eyes, and his bones are no longer sticking together--he appears to be nothing more than a loose pile of bones. Sid quickly rushes over, reaching into his bag of holding.

Ramuh sustains his zone and moves. His Sidhe house guard telepeorts.
Ramuh misses with dragonfrost.
Ramuh and the house guard get slid 2 squares.
Myn moves and uses fey bargain, then hits with shared agony for 26 damage, disabling Gallard.

Still mounted on Rutger's back, Torinn and the shaman approach Elayne. With a quick infusion of spiritual energy, Elayne slowly begins to pick herself up off the ground. "Wha... what?" Sitting on the ground with her legs spread awkwardly in front of her, she rubs her head with one hand and supports herself with another, looking quite out of sorts. "Where... what happened?" Bernkastel starts moving rocks, but isn't making very quick progress. As the group has a brief discussion, Sid finishes the ritual. The words on the scroll in his hand disappears, and the pile of bones glow briefly, and then stop vibrating. The glow fades steadily, but red lights form inside the skull.

"...what trickery is this?" Gallard's voice booms, though the skull's mouth barely moves, and it appears to have remained separated from the rest of the skeleton's body.

"Golly willikers!" Sid exclaims. "I believe the ritual has trapped Gallard's soul inside the skull!" Studying it carefully, he notes, "I don't believe he has access to his spell-casting prowess, however."

If the lich could sneer, it probably would right now. "You intruded upon my domain, the one I was entrusted with by the Fell King, and accuse me of cowardice... I'm certain I am hardly the only one in this room who has plans for cheating death. Your hypocrisy does not impress me, overdweller." Then the skull lets out a sigh, and goes on, "However, your power is considerable... I believe the Fell King was right to dispatch groups of assassins into these tunnels to pursue you..." Glancing at the revenant, he goes onto elaborate, "Many other scouts were turned back by such assassins, or killed. I believe yours was one of the lucky ones..."

Bernkastel estimates that it will take upwards of an hour at her current pace to remove enough rocks to squeeze through the passage, or even get a good look inside. Of course, with help, it would most likely go faster.

"I see. All is well, then. Thank you, lich, for setting my heart at ease." Well, save for Ramuh himself, but that happened quite a while ago. "The assassins worry me, though. That is why the Fell King does not wish you to enter the portal... why assassins pursue you, why I was guarding this entrance." The skull sighs. "You have proven yourself in strength. If you can defeat the Fell King by right of might, then I will be freed from service. There is little more I can do to serve him now..."

Besides which, you have bested me in combat... as I am unable to escape to regenerate my body in this state and return to my master's service, putting myself at your disposal remains an honorable choice, by our code."

Sid chimes in after considering the leyline for some time, "It's a good thing Gallard was so strongly bound to the leyline, because I doubt this would've worked otherwise! Mardoc was quite crafty there... but this probably won't work on liches in general."

While Torinn heads over to clear the rocks, Sid lays out the scroll on the surface of the leyline so that those gathered around can join in the ritual. Myn, Ramuh, Elayne, and Sid gather in a circle around the scroll and begin to concentrate on casting the the ritual, holding their hands out, palms-down, as magical tendrils begin to emerge from the scroll itself and drift upwards, coaxed by their chanting. The leyline seems to match the rhythm of its glowing to their chant.

By the time the ritual is complete, Torinn has cleared out enough space for the party to pass through. Beyond the rocks is a much smaller cavern bathed in a sort of blue glow, which seems to emanate from just out of the dragonborn's direct line of sight. Torinn notices very little of note in the cavern at first glance.

The ritual casting itself goes off without a hitch. Elayne nods to the revenant, confirming, "You needn't have worried, you did fine." Sid and the eladrin kneel, examining the leyline closely to see if the ritual had the intended effect.
>> No. 75498 edit
Ramuh doesn't quite catch the eladrin's words. He stares ahead, somewhat dazed by the experience─perhaps an effect of the leyline? The storm he had always felt within him seems so much... closer now. The moment the ritual happened, it felt as though he had touched the elemental chaos, and it had reached back to him.

There is no outward change to Ramuh, but inside, more and more does the revenant feel the intuitive and instinctive pull of the storm, the caress of lightning. Faintly, he imagines himself a lord of levin, before reality snaps back and the room comes back into view.

"Certainly an... experience," the revenant mumbles, staring at his hands. No changes. Only that changed feeling within. Somehow more... alive, and yet his past seems ever more distant and beyond his grasp.

As soon as Ramuh begins to speak, an unnatural darkness slowly covers the room. The leyline's glow has seemed to fade quite a bit, and a shadowy, insubstantial humanoid figure appears before the gathered adventurers.

The figure is recognizable for some--immense in size, with ash-colored skin that appears segmented into armored plates, pulsing with glowing purple energy that runs in vein-like patterns over his body. The head is shaped as though it has facial hair, though the hair itself appears to be made of the same strange material as the rest of his body. The orc-like face is dotted with a pair of glowing eyes, and it speaks in a voice that radiates power, "You have become an annoyance. But you are meddling with powers that you cannot begin to comprehend... soon, I will drive your armies from the field, and both Many-Arrows and Luruar will tremble before the Dragonsworn's fury. Would-be heroes... you should turn back now. This does not concern you."

Gallard appears disoriented coming out of the bag of holding, mumbling something like, "That is not a star..."

With the business atop the platform settled and the rituals cast, the group descends the platform and heads towards the glowing cavern to the northeast. Nothing could go wrong with this.

As you prepare to enter the small, approximately fifty-foot diameter circular room, the shaman and the ranger notice what appears to be an arcane engraving on the floor. When it's pointed out, Elayne comments, "I can feel some faint traces of arcane power radiating from the engraving..."

There appears to be a circle engraved into the floor, lined with arcane sigils. Gallard's skull speaks up at this point, "While traveling from here to the Shadowfell through the portal is a simple task, the return trip is not as simple... it is very draining, a taxing ordeal. Though it will seem only a blink of an eye to your mental perception, your body will feel as though you've traveled for days without rest. This circle... holds a spell that fully rejuvenates all who stand within after an hour's rest. There is only one charge remaining at this time... use it once, and the spell will no longer be available."

The circle is quite large, filling most of the room, about thirty feet in diameter. On the north wall is the what appears to be the portal--most of the wall has been replaced by a swirling vortex of blue and black energies that emit a faint hum. Rather than a proper portal, it appears that the wall simply fades into the energies unevenly, but Sid confirms, "That's definitely a portal, all right! A natural one, a true rarity!"

"If... all of this can be confirmed, and this really is a two-way portal, maybe someone should go through and see what's waiting. The magic should rejuvenate them upon their return, and we really do need to rest."

The shaman takes out the picnic basket again for anyone interested, and then addresses Sid this time. "Mr. Sid, Mr. Gallard doesn't seem to like the bag of holding, but I may accidentally drop him if I carry him as is. Do you have anything to help?"

If he needs to make something and needs materials, I'll offer him one of my flotation bladders. It says it's made of cured animal hide, and it would be waterproof.

I can't honestly recommend the glue option, since it seems too permanent.

"While the death of Cordelia pushed him over the edge, this is about more than that..." Gallard says, his glowing eyes narrowing to slits. "Rage has taken him. In his grief over the loss of clan and kin, he sought to commune with the spirits--and yet, I speculate a bit on this point, doing so in the Shadowfell created undesired results... rather than contacting the spirits of the natural world, I suspect that he contacted the spirits of hundreds of slain Dragonsworn warriors."

The glow returns to Gallard's eyes, and he goes on to say, "Do not underestimate the Fell King. His rage has made him powerful even as it has twisted his spirit. As for knowing of the survival of one of his kin, I do not know. He no longer confides in me... I do know that the spirits of the Dragonsworn call out for vengeance against Luruar, against Many-Arrows. It seems their goals have become the Fell King's... this is the basis for my theory."
